Deformity surgery implies that there is a structural abnormality in the spine. The two most common types of structural abnormalities are scoliosis which is a curvature and a rotation in the coronal (or frontal) plane, or kyphosis which is an abnormal curvature in the sagittal (or side) plane. Second opinions can be very helpful, as deformity surgery can be complex and not without significant risk.
